In Photos: Gale force winds cause havoc across Durban

No injuries have been reported as yet but several trees in the area have collapsed.

GALE force winds have wrought havoc in and around Durban with several collapsed trees being reported. Photos of the destruction have surfaced on social media. Kyle van Reenen of Marshall Security, has urged motorists and residents to be vigilant.

In one of the worst incidents, a tree came crashing down on a Mercedes Benz at the Mount Edgecombe Plaza. The driver and occupants of the vehicle were lucky to escape uninjured.

According to Van Reenen, wind speeds in excess of 140km/h have been reported in Durban Port. The port has been closed until weather conditions improve.

Several trees, including Beachway, Paruks Drive and on Stirling Crescent have collapsed. No injuries have been reported thus far.

The Emergency Control and Disaster Management Unit for the City is monitoring the situation. All emergency calls should be logged to 031 361 0000.
