uMgeni Park arrest leads to stolen car recoveries

The suspects appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Monday and have been remanded back into police custody for further investigation.

THE arrest of four men for car theft by the Durban North SAPS, have yielded positive results. The men, who were spotted near a hotel in the Riverside area, were arrested for stealing a Ford Ranger from the Durban area. Further investigations led police to uMlazi where two more vehicles, allegedly stolen by the gang, were recovered.

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS, said one of the vehicles was stolen in Greenwood Park.

“Both vehicles were Toyotas and were stolen earlier this year. One of the vehicles belongs to a Greenwood Park resident who did not know his vehicle had been stolen. He had lent it to a friend who failed to tell him the vehicle had been stolen. The suspects appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court and have been remanded back into our custody. Our investigations are ongoing and we are trying to link them to other car thefts in the area,” he said.

Deokaran praised the work of the Durban North SAPS Field Unit as well as Detective Sipho Shezi who made the arrests last week.
