Armed robbers target Sea Cow Lake residents

The victims were robbed after they pulled into the driveway on Sunday night.

A SEA Cow Lake woman and her friend were accosted by two armed men outside her Mysore Road home on Sunday night.

The victim, who spoke to the Northglen News anonymously, said two men approached the vehicle from the driver’s side door, after they had pulled up to the gate at around 9.30pm.

“I was looking for the gate remote in my bag when they started banging on the window with the gun, trying to smash open the window. Luckily the window had smash-and grab. They also continuously tugged at the door handle trying to open the door,” she said.

“We told them that they could take the car and whatever they wanted, but that they should not hurt us. They didn’t want the car and demanded cash and cell phones,” she said.

As the duo did not carry cash on them, the thieves eventually fled with the woman’s cell phone.

“I believe they were petty or opportunistic criminals, as they could have taken the car. They were so brazen they did not even wear masks.”

“This has come at a shock, as nothing like this has ever happened to me. I am just grateful that we are both safe. It could have been so much worse,” she said.

The Northglen News had requested comment from the Greenwood Park SAPS.
