Thieves steal solar panels from N2 construction site

The suspects are still at large.

THIEVES targeted several solar panels on the N2 (going south) just before the construction site on the new N2/M41 interchange.  The interchange, which has been under construction for the last three years, is expected to be completed later this year.

Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS said the theft occurred over the weekend.

“Three solar panels and five cylo batteries were stolen by the thieves. It’s unclear if the items belonged to construction crews working on the N2 interchange. We believe the suspects used a vehicle to transport the items from the N2 freeway. We believe the items were being used to power the portable electronic signs,” he said.

The solar panels are estimated to be around R1 800 each.

No arrests have yet been made.
