Avoca family demand justice after murder

Philendren Naidoo (35) was stabbed with a steak knife after an altercation at a braai on Wednesday.

AN Avoca family who are in mourning are hoping justice will take its course. This after Philendren (Phil) Naidoo was murdered at a braai on Wednesday morning at a house just off Umhlangane Road. The 35-year-old passed away after a sustaining a single stab wound below his sternum after an altercation at about 3am. He was allegedly stabbed by a man using a steak knife.

His sister-in-law, Yavini Naidoo, said the family were devastated and were struggling to come to terms with his death.

“He had a zest for life, he touched the lives of everyone. He was fun-loving, genuine, honest and a loyal  human being. He has been taken from us too soon. My sister is devastated, they were only married 11 months and were planning on going down to the South Coast in the next two weeks to celebrate their anniversary. His funeral was held on Thursday and the number of people who showed up was testament to his character. This is a very tough time for us as a family and we want justice to take its course,” she said.

Shanik Siebalak, Philendren’s close friend echoed Yavini’s thoughts.

“There’s no words to describe the pain we are all feeling. I’ve known Phil for 25 years and I was devastated to hear of his passing. A wife and a mother are grieving over this horrible situation, the family have lost a breadwinner. We want justice to take its course and for the people responsible to be held accountable,” he said.

It’s believed one person has been arrested for the murder. The man was released on bail today however attempts to contact Greenwood Park SAPS spokesman, Const Zenzele Chonco for confirmation were unsuccessful.
