WATCH: Vehicles collide in Durban North crash

The lack of painted Stop signs at the intersection is cause for concern says residents and the local councillor.

CCTV video footage of a serious vehicle collision at the intersection of St Andrews Drive and Graham Place has emerged. The incident was captured by Durban North resident’s Anthony Posthumus. The local resident said he is concerned about the intersection which has seen three accidents in the last few weeks.

“The problem is there are no painted ‘Stop’ signs, however, there is quite clearly a Stop sign on the road. It’s extremely concerning as there has been three accidents at that intersection in recent weeks,” Posthumus said.

Durban North ward councillor, Shaun Ryley, said the road was recently resurfaced and he had contacted the Road Department to urgently paint the ‘Stop’ signs.

“In this particular crash, the vehicle that was meant to stop actually landed on its side. The intersection of Graham Place and St Andrews Drive is meant to be a Stop street. If you watch closely, the tyre of the 4X4 is seen rolling down the road. There could be a fatality if nothing is done soon. The road was recently resurfaced and although there is a Stop sign pole at the intersection, there aren’t any painted Stop signs.  I see people who pay no attention and drive right through the intersection,” Ryely said.
