Armed robbers open fire on security personnel
The 10 heavily armed suspects opened fire on the officer.
DRAMATIC footage of a group of armed men opening fire on a security officer has emerged. The incident occurred in the parking area of a wholesaler in Phoenix where an armed robbery took place on Thursday morning.
The large group of heavily armed men are seen nonchalantly walking out the premises when they were spotted by a member of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA).
The video which was shared on RUSA’s Facebook page and has been viewed more than 21 000 times.
“The officer was attending to an unrelated call-out at the business when the 10 suspects stormed the premises. The suspects held up staff before robbing the cash office and till-points of an undisclosed amount of cash. Several patrons and employees were assaulted by the suspects. A security officer was overpowered and his firearm was stolen during the robbery. The heavily armed men opened fire at the RUSA officer with handguns and high calibre rifles before fleeing the scene in a silver Opel Corsa bakkie.
According to RUSA, a pedestrian caught in the crossfire of the dramatic shootout was shot in the face near Duffs Road. No one else was injured in the incident.
