Thieves target Broadway’s famous mannequin

The owner of the store said he is furious after thieves stole the helmet earlier this week.

A DURBAN North store owner is furious after thieves stole a famous mannequin’s bike helmet on Swapo Road (Broadway). Gareth Moir, owner of BSG Motorcycles said he was disappointment that ‘Manny’ as he is known, was targeted by thieves. The helmet, worth R2 500 was stolen earlier this week.

“We call him ‘Manny’ and the response we received from the north Durban community over this mannequin has been phenomenal. Manny even got a following. We’ve had varied responses to him being at the circle, from shock and horror to people just having fun with him. Witnesses say they saw two guys on a bike pull up alongside him, loosen the helmet and speed off. I’m upset because we’ve had such a good response and to see someone steal something off him is disheartening.

“The helmet is worth R2 500. It’s an EVS motocross green and black helmet, we would dearly like to have the helmet returned. When we put him out there in the beginning, the idea was to get people to notice the shop,” he said.

Moir has urged anyone who knows where the helmet is to contact him 0n 031 563 1501.
