Man dies after drowning incident in eMdloti

The holidaymaker was approximately in his 70s.

AN elderly man has died after a drowning incident on eMdloti Beach. According to Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha, the holidaymaker was approximately in his 70s. The incident occurred at about 11am.

“The man, who was from Johannesburg and was on holiday in eMdloti. Paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the lifeguards were doing CPR on the patient. He was placed on a ventilator, and with the help of ambulance crews they continued with the resuscitation for 45 minutes. Tragically, despite all their efforts the man was declared dead at the scene,” he said.

The cause of the drowning is unknown.

The incident follows a near-drowning on Saturday at an uMhlanga resort involving a seven-year-old girl.
