Community praised for helping find missing man

The 86-year-old had been missing since Saturday at about 5.30pm, when he was last seen.

TYRON Powell of Marshall Security has praised the efforts of the community of Amatata who helped find and take care a 86-year-old man who had been missing for almost a day. The man was last seen at the Blessed Sacrament in Newport Avenue at about 5.30pm on Saturday.

Earlier today, his family had put out an appeal on Facebook for any information on his whereabouts. It was reported that the man suffers from a medical condition which may affect his ability to know his whereabouts.

Police and members of Marshall Security also assisted in the search for the man. Powell said, the man’s car had run out of petrol and a community member of Amatata helped the man to one of the homes in the area.

“He actually ended up in a place more than 50 kilometres away from Durban North. His car had run out of petrol and a community member helped him out.The Amatata resident phoned the police and brought him to a home where a ceremony is going on. The community gave him food and something to drink and were amazingly supportive with him the whole time. It’s such a happy ending to the story, I can’t thank the community enough for their kindness. The 86-year-old’s family were ecstatic that he has been found,” Powell said.
