One arrested after robbing security guard of gun

The off-duty guard was making his way to work when he was robbed at gunpoint by two men.

A MAN was arrested after robbing a private security officer in Glen Anil. The off-duty officer was making his way to work in the early hours of the morning when the two suspects robbed him at gunpoint.

At around 5am on Tuesday 21 March, the armed response officer was making his way to work when he noticed that two suspicious-looking men were following him along North Coast Road.

According to Blue Security’s operations manager, Brian Jackson, the security officer realised the men intended to target him and he immediately called a Blue Security officer in the area for assistance. He then walked in to Columbine Place where the suspects held him up at gunpoint and robbed him of his cellphone.

“The suspects spotted our vehicle arriving at the scene and started to run, throwing the firearm into nearby bushes. Our officer arrested one of the suspects but his accomplice managed to flee the scene,” Jackson said.

Jackson went on to say that the captured suspect was handed-over to the police at South African Police Services Greenwood Park station. Jackson also said at the time, that the discarded firearm had not yet been recovered as a search was still underway at the scene.
