Driver crashes through wall of Glenhills property, speeds off

Pieces of concrete landed just metres away from bedroom of the Glenhills family's children.

A GLENHILLS family have been left outraged after a driver smashed through their property wall and then promptly drove off. The incident occurred on Thursday night on Joseph Avenue, on the corner of Umhlanga Rocks Drive. To make matters worse, concrete debris from the wall landed metres from the bedroom of the family’s six month old and two year old children.

Mike Worthington, said he searched for the vehicle involved in the crash after the incident occurred at about 10pm.

“I heard an engine picking up speed followed by tyres screeching. I could make out the sound of the vehicle hitting a kerb and then of the explosion of concrete. Initially I thought the collision had occurred on Umhlanga Rocks Drive because there have been numerous accidents on this road. It’s only when I heard the spinning of wheels on grass and the revving of an engine that I realised something was wrong, the driver was obviously trying to get away. I deactivated my alarm and heard the car speeding down Rinaldo Road. I even drove around North Coast Road trying to find any sign of the vehicle.

“There was no bumper, no glass, no plastic from the vehicle which makes me think it was an SUV of some sort. The driver left one part of his number plate, the number 6, which we’ve handed over to the Greenwood Park police. We’ve had to patch the wall up using wooden pallets and other items. The scary thing, if there wasn’t the kerb and the concrete barrier the car would’ve crashed into our children’s bedroom. This wasn’t someone slipping on the corner, it was someone travelling at high speed,” he said.

Worthington is appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the accident to email him on worthington.mike1@gmail.com.
