WATCH: Local comedian’s video goes viral

The video has been viewed more than 135 000 times.

AN all-rounder is a term normally associated with cricket and generally describes someone good at a wide range of things. It is an apt description for Anasia Govender or Annalakshmi as she is known on the comedy circuit. Not only is the 41-year-old a MC, a comedian and mother of three, but she is also a chef of her own restaurant called Chilli Kadhai, just off North Coast Road.

She recently covered an Ed Sheeran song by changing the lyrics to entice customers to visit the restaurant. The video, since it was posted on Tuesday has been viewed 135 000 times and shared more than 1 300 times.

Govender, who performs under the stage name, Annalakshmi, performs by adopting an Indian accent. She didn’t expect the reaction from Durbanites.

“I’m overwhelmed and gobsmacked. So many people came into our restaurant the next day saying they’d seen the video. I expected a reaction but not to that extent,” she laughed. “I’ve been working on parody songs for quite a while now and I use them in my acts. I’ve even written a song about Jacob Zuma having a conversation with Schabir Shaik which will be appearing soon on the Facebook page so keep an eye out and a different take on the Abba hit, Mama Mia to Bunny Bunny,” she said.
