WATCH: Local swimmers raise R83 000 for CHOC
They hope to raise R100 000 which will be then handed over to the Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa later this year.
A RECORD number of participants entered this year’s Midmar Mile for the Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa (CHOC). This year’s Cow heard numbered 202, but it was a selection of North Durban cows that made all the headlines this year. Sarah McLennan, whose North Durban herd, the Midmoo Nutellas numbered 34 raised an incredible R83 000.
“Each swimmer was tasked with raising R1 500 each and it’s unbelievable how much we’ve raised. We are incredibly humbled by the support from the community. The kids have been so amazing. They know what this means for CHOC and the schools in the area have been fabulous as well. Last year we raised a total of R76 000 and while we’ve surpassed that amount already, our aim is to get to a R100 000. We have a few more fundraising initiatives lined up this year and I’m confident we can get to that mark,” she said.

Durban North resident and KZN committee member of the CHOC Cows Durban Herd, Gordon Reid, said these donations were desperately needed.
“These funds facilitate early diagnosis, which is key, as well as the treatment of childhood cancer patients. Sarah is a gem and her team is just incredible, it’s a massive boost seeing how much they raised. She is phenomenal, every single year, they keep getting better and better,” he said.
