MUST WATCH: Hilarious trailer on ‘forbidden love’ movie

Exclusive pre-screenings of Keeping up with the Kandasamys will take place at selected Ster-Kinekor cinemas around the country on 26 February.

A LOCAL film about the forbidden love between two rival families hit the big screen Thursday. Keeping with the Kandasamys premiered at Ster-Kinekor in Gateway and has been billed as ‘a film with something for everyone’.

“The universal story of neighbourhood rivalry, our desperate need for acceptance and the climb for perceived societal success, is something which touches everyone the world over. At the end of the day, we can all recognise our quirks and weaknesses and the funny side of the weird, wonderful and strangely competitive world we live,” said Durban director Jayan Moodley.

Set in the Durban suburb of Chatsworth, Keeping up with the Kandasamys features Jailoshni Naidoo and Maeshni Naicker as opposing matriarchs who find a common struggle in their efforts to break up the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ relationship between their children.

The light-hearted and comedic film stars many local actors who will take the movie-goer through the contemporary lives and culture of Indian South Africans.

Exclusive pre-screenings of the film will take place at selected Ster-Kinekor cinemas around the country on Sunday, February 26, 2017. Bookings open on February 22 and tickets are limited.
