Mt Edgecombe’s new dump site opening soon

The new garden refuse site will be located just 600m away from the old site down Flanders Drive.

MT Edgecombe’s new garden refuse site is expected to open soon. This week the eThekwini Municipality said the construction of the site is nearing completion and should be done by the end of January. The exact date for the changeover from the old site in Flanders Drive is yet to be determined and regular users will be notified closer to the time.

Durban Solid Waste (DSW) has in the past asked residents who spot people illegally dumping to phone their nearest depot to report the matter, providing information of when and where the dumping took place as well as details of the vehicle. “DSW will take action against the alleged perpetrators.”

The new garden refuse site will be located just 600m further down the temporary gravel road from the existing location. A new access road leading off from Flanders Drive bridge, over the M41, will provide permanent access once completed.

They do not expect any significant disruption to the public’s access to the site’s services other than on the change over day when it will be closed.

“We apologise for any inconvenience endured and thank you for your understanding.”
