Gear up for free open air beach theatre festival

The brand new free al-fresco theatre festival will be staged at Durban's North Beach for the first time.

DURBAN’s North Beach will come alive for three days on 20, 21 and 22 January with the Fresha Festival which is a brand new free fun family al-fresco theatre festival to be staged for the first time at this location.

The festival starts late afternoon on Friday 20 January with a promenade procession and performance showcase to provide an overview of the weekend ahead.

The programme runs on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 January, from noon until 5pm, offering a full afternoon of diverse, family-friendly free short shows.  Each day will culminate with a Sundowner Showcase under the especially-erected beach Bedouin tent on the Bay of Plenty Lawns at 5pm.  All shows are free of charge, however although the evening shows will be free, there will be a donation box available if you wish to contribute to the cost of the performance – on a pay-what-you-can donation basis.

Directed by Emma Durden and Roel Twijnstra and presented by Twist Theatre Development Projects, the event will offer a varied day-time line-up of carefully-chosen participants at the beach-promenade.

As part of the festival, there will be a free dance class for all levels of dancers  on Saturday morning from 8am to 9am on the lawns. Entry is free and all are welcome.
