Four North Coast stars to shine in 2024 young performers project musical ‘Dream On’

The musical will be performed at the Playhouse Opera and features a diverse cast of children, including four talented actresses from Ballito.

The 2024 Young Performers Project will see four promising North Coast actresses belting out showtunes in a jukebox musical next month.

Titled Dream On, the musical will be performed at the Playhouse Opera from July 5 to 14 and includes Ballito’s Mackenzie Jahnig, Zara Larsson, Gabriella Biagi and Amahle Koyana in the main cast.

They join a packed cast of actors and actresses from across the province, with a total of 170 children aged 5-19 forming the full cast.

Dream On will feature returning songs from last year’s hit Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat production and new numbers from Prince of Egypt and Les Misérables, as well as tunes from Elvis, the Beatles, the Bangles and more.

The show follows a variety of characters, led by Brenton from the Bluff (Rory Booth) and Mary Poppins (Georgia Mabbett Kelly), and promises to be a fantastic watch.

Dream On is directed by Daisy Spencer and includes musical direction from Des Govender, choreography from Ballito’s Simone Mann, set design from Chris Taylor, costume design by Kathy Singery, lighting by Dylan Heath and sound by Anthony Govender.

The Young Performers Project promotes cultural activities across the province and will include some 50 schools across a wide variety of locations, demographics and languages this year.

Children have been drawn from private, government, independent, rural, online and township schools, as well as a few home-schoolers too.

Find tickets through Webtickets, ranging from R150-R225. Parking is available at Royal Hotel.
