Biking nirvana at new moto park outside Ballito

The track is free to use until April 1 and is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 8am-4pm.

Gearheads get ready, the North Coast’s very own motocross track is open for adventure!

The NDunas Moto Park, just 25 minutes inland of Ballito, has been months in the making but has properly taken shape over the past few weeks.

Crafted in an open field on a farm off the P104, the park is designed to be accessible to all levels of riders and offers three different tracks.

It has been welcomed by the large local riding community, who previously had to travel to Richard’s Bay or Hillcrest to get to a similar park.

“The whole ethos of this park is that it has been created by the community, for the community,” said park operations manager, Craig Tarlington.

“From day one we have had an outpouring of support. Farm owner Brett Michielin is the person who really made it possible, by leasing us the land for a discounted rate, without which it wouldn’t have been feasible.”

Once the land was available, work moved fairly quickly with help and donations from many different local businesses and residents.

“The earthworks were done a few weeks ago with donated machinery and equipment and riders have already had two weekends to test out the track,” said Tarlington.

“There’s two full tracks, one for experienced riders and one for those who are more intermediate. We also have ‘the pit’ for kids.”

Tarlington said the next step for the park would be to install showers and bathrooms, with a view to making it comfortable for a family day out.

The park has two full tracks, MX1 (for experienced riders, left), MX2 (for intermediate riders, right) and the kiddies pit (top right).

“It will hopefully promote the growth of motocross riding locally too,” he said.

“If a rider wanted to go to Glendale, for example, that’s almost a full day commitment. The whole family is welcome at the park and you can be in and out in a few hours.”

The track is free to use until April 1 and is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 8am-4pm.

After April 1, there will be fees to use the park and riders can opt to buy a membership or pay for individual day passes.

“All of the funds generated from fees will go directly back to the upkeep of the park, future upgrades and to the salary for the one job that has so far been created.”

It will be cash free and only Zapper will be accepted.

The turnoff is five minutes past Shakaskraal, after which a well-kept dirt road will take you the final three kilometres to the park.

Tarlington thanked everyone who helped to make the park a reality.
