#BookReview: The List

The plot is one dimensional and even the 'twist' is about as boring as a busy day on X (formerly Twitter).

I have a list of books I could happily never have read, and ‘The List’ has taken the top slot.

While the premise of British journalist Yomi Adegoke’s latest novel is interesting and the subject matter current, that’s about all the novel has going for it.

The characters are tiresome and spend most of the story depressed or anxious. I found that I didn’t care for them much either way.

The plot is one dimensional and even the ‘twist’ is about as boring as a busy day on X (formerly Twitter).

Ola and Michael are in love influencers a month from their big wedding when, an anonymous X user posts a crowdsourced list of male women abusers in the media industry that, gasp, includes Michael.

While there’s no proof of Michael’s crimes, the Insta-couple are thrown into a world of chaos as the internet tears their lives apart and old skeletons are spooked out of the closet.

While the abuse of women, the difficulty of getting justice, and trial by public court on social media are important social issues, I don’t believe the novel addresses any of these particularly well.
