Rage festival 2017 – everything you need to know

Rage Festival 2017, presented by Samsung, is just days away!

Friends, fun, sun, parties, new experiences, adventures and memories that will last a lifetime. These are just some of the ingredients for the most epic student music festival experience in South Africa.

Across multiple venues, with hundreds of hours of live music, incredible international and local artists, seamless technology, world-class production, enhanced safety and security, its own transport system, art installations by one of the best festival artists in the world Danny Popper, and so much more – Rage Festival is the slickest, most advanced and innovative festival of its kind in the country.

Year and after year, it attracts thousands of students and young people from across South Africa – and other parts of the world – who will begin their rite of passage and journey to #Rage2017, the week-long day- and night-time festival that hits Durban, Umhlanga and Ballito from 2 to 9 December.

Let the party begin

Four stages, four nights, one mega venue! The Sound Factory in Durban is the heart and home of Rage Festival and hosts the biggest parties, experiences and activations across the eight days.

The stages include the Samsung Mega Dome (EDM, Progressive House, Commercial House, Melbourne Bounce, Psy Trance, Electronic Live), Olmeca Beat Burra (Tech House, Techno, Deep Tech, Drum & Base), Red Square Base Bin (Hip Hop, Trap, Afro House) and the new Mali Zulu Acoustic Stage (Live acoustic).

International artists who will play across the stages include incredible talent like Brynny, Teddy Cream, Sevenn, Stimming, Township Rebellion, Vini Vici, Cat Dealers, Stephan Bodzin and Black Coffee.

A powerhouse local line features names like Austin Cassim, Crazy White Boy, Chunda Munki, DJ Speedsta, Capital, J Molley, Kyle Watson, Kyle Cassim, LA Cruz, Master Simz, Mogey, Nasty C, Pop Art Live, PH Fat, Rikay, Ryan Murgatroyd, Stab Virus, TiMO ODV, Vimo, Vin Groovin, Yeti, Apple Gule, Da L.E.S, Pascal & Pearce and Trancemicsoul.

Sound Factory dates are the 2, 4, 6 and 8 December. Tickets for each night are on sale here.

MTV Club Life

While Sound Factory is the main event and party hub of Rage Festival, this year the festival has partnered with MTV to present Club Life at #Rage2017.

Most nights across the festival week, MTV Club Life will cover the hottest moments at all the Rage clubs – Azar, Crush Ballito, Origin, Sub Zero and TigerTiger – bringing Ragers and partygoers the best in local talent until the crazy late hours.

Safety remains key priority

Every year Rage Festival works harder to boost security and safety measures for Ragers, and the festival boasts an excellent track record. These measures include working with both the local police services and private security who operate openly and in plain clothes to monitor the festival across multiple venues.

A comprehensive safety team is employed that includes medics, The Red Frogs and is led by event-technology platform, Howler.

Howler presents a new dawn for young partygoers as each attendee will receive a Howler armband that not only acts as a virtual wallet for cashless transactions (increased safety not needing to carry cash around) but also as an information source in the event of an emergency.

Rage and Howler want to give parents peace of mind that their children are in safe hands.

If something goes wrong, they will know immediately as all personal details and emergency contact information is loaded onto the armband.

This technology was tested at Rage 2016, and after a very successful run it is being rolled out across the entire festival this year – giving thousands of students a safe and seamless, 100% cashless experience.

Rage Rides goes cashless too

Rage Festival’s own transport network, Rage Rides, will be 100% cashless this year.

Ragers will have Rage credits loaded onto their armband, which they will simply tap to get on to a Rage Rides Shuttle.

A dedicated Rage Festival representative will be on all shuttles to ensure a smooth tap and ride journey and shuttles to and from King Shaka International Airport will also use the cashless system.
