Adhir Maharaj claims 4 wickets in Vets victory.

Dawnheights Cricket Club (DCC) kicked off their season with a comfortable victory against Umzinto at Chatsworth at the weekend.

Winning the toss, Dawnheights opted to bowl first.

mzinto batted well throughout, with three of their batsmen scoring more than 30 runs. This allowed them to post a challenging total of 153/6 in the allotted 20 overs.

Trynn Naidoo was the pick of the bowlers for DCC, claiming two wickets.

In response, the Dawnheights batting line-up fired on all cylinders and made quick work of reaching the target in only 14.3 overs for a bonus point win. The charge was spearheaded by Adesh Bageloo and Zulfikar Ali, who both scored half-centuries to anchor the innings with a partnership of 129 runs. Bageloo remained unbeaten on 73.

DCC’s second weekend match against Silver Saints had to be called off because of rain.

The Dawnheights Vets squad also made light work of the opposition.

Dawnheights’ Vets match against the Saints at Chatsworth was completed, however, with the senior team emulating the first team to record a commanding season opening victory. Losing the toss and sent in to bat, Dawnheights posted a competitive total of 157/7 in their 20 overs.

Preshen Rampersad top-scored with a solid 43 runs, while Rajen Naidoo contributed 34 runs.

Silver Saints struggled to build momentum to chase down the target against a disciplined Dawnheights bowling attack. Adhir Maharaj was the standout bowler, claiming 4 wickets to disrupt the opposition’s batting order.

He was well-supported by Zulfikar Ali (3 wickets) and Nicky Misra (2).
