Running for more than a free beer and coffee

Good turnout for Heritage Day run in aid of youth sport upliftment.

Over 150 runners donned the South African flag for a 5.6km run in celebration of Heritage Day on Tuesday.

Taking off from Hops Ballito, the runners enjoyed beautiful midweek conditions after a freezing weekend and completed the hilly loop for a good cause.

Tatenda Sangarwe was the fastest finisher on the morning.

All funds raised from the morning were donated to the Salt40 Foundation, an NGO which focuses on uplifting local youth through sport.

“It was a great turnout, thank you to everyone who arrived and supported the run,” said Salt40 founder, Martin Barnard.

He thanked We Do Creative for organising the event and Hops Ballito for hosting on the morning.

Aside from the Heritage Day run, there is also a run on the same route hosted on the first Sunday of every month, with a portion of proceeds donated to Salt40.

The run takes off at 7am and all runners get a free coffee or beer after they finish.
