Umhlali Impis hockey stars represent KwaZulu-Natal in JHB outdoor inter-provincial tournament

The Raiders kicked things off on Monday morning with a 2-2 draw with Western Province, before beating Western Province Peninsula 4-3 in a thrilling match on Tuesday.

Three Umhlali Impis hockey stars are currently representing KwaZulu-Natal at the men’s outdoor inter-provincial tournament.

Donning the black and white are Nic White, who is competing for the Raiders team, and Linda Mthiyane and Jaimie Fisher who are playing for the Mynahs team.

Both teams are in Johannesburg for the tournament at St Stithians, which started on Monday and will run until this weekend. The Raiders are playing in the ‘A’ Division and Mynahs in the ‘B’ Division.

They will face the South Gauteng Witsies in the final game of their group on Wednesday (September 11), before quarter-finals kick off from Thursday.

The ‘B’ Division is slightly different and uses a log format instead of groups, meaning the Mynahs will play all five other teams. The top two teams on the log will then qualify directly for the final.

On Monday, the Mynahs matched their Raiders colleagues with an opening draw, matching the Northern Blues Daisies at 1-1. They followed it up with a 2-0 victory against South African Country Districts on Tuesday afternoon.

A game against Free State beckons on Wednesday, before the Northern Cape and South Gauteng Nuggets on Thursday and Friday respectively. The final will be on Saturday.
