Umhlali Country Club to host KZN junior golfers for Masters tournament

The tournament is open to junior golfers with official handicaps, although experienced children without handicaps will also be allowed to enter.

The province’s best junior golfers will tee it up at Umhlali Country Club for the KZN Junior Golf Masters tournament this Sunday.

A field of around 120 under-18 golfers are expected, with players travelling from all corners of KwaZulu-Natal to compete for their chance at silverware.

The annual event is hosted by the Central Durban Golf Club and will this year enjoy sponsorship from Phuza Water.

“It heartens us to see that people out there recognise the work we put in to see a new Papwa Sewgolum, Vincent Tshabalala or Ernie Els emerge from our community,” said tournament director, Juggie Pillay.

“Some of our children who played in our tournaments have already represented South Africa in games overseas. That to us is a feather in our caps.”

The tournament is open to junior golfers with official handicaps, although experienced children without handicaps will be allowed to play too.

There are three age divisions, the winners of which will take home a great group of trophies, prizes and goody bags.

If you would like to register your child to play, contact Gary Govindsamy at 082 376 7984. Entry fees are R300.
