Celebrate Tinley Manor parkrun’s 7th anniversary with a champagne breakfast

Come rain or shine, the run starts every Saturday at 8am.

Almost 3 500 runners have taken on the 5km Tinley Manor parkrun, which will this weekend celebrate its 7th anniversary.

Started by Kim Blevin in 2017, the parkrun has been held 260 times to date, registering some 15 755 finishes in that period.

That means a staggering combined 78 775 kilometres have been covered by the runners in seven years.

The Tinley Manor parkrun is set in beautiful scenery.

And if just 275 runners turn up this weekend, that total would reach 80 150 kilometres – enough to have circumnavigated the globe, twice!

It is testament to the vision of Blevin and consistent support of runners and volunteers that the parkrun can boast such numbers.

You too can add to the total by joining the event this weekend, where a celebratory champagne breakfast will be held under the trees.

Mandla Gumede recently finished his 40th parkrun.

Cooking equipment and chefs will be provided, you just need to bring your own bacon, eggs, rolls and drinks, as well as cutlery and crockery, to enjoy the breakfast after the run.

The details of the run itself remain the same as they have always been and will be into the foreseeable future.

Come rain or shine, the run starts at 8am, with the course taking athletes from the Palm Lakes driving range, through the adjacent working farm and up to the finish at Tinley Manor Primary School’s original bell tower.

Volunteers Vijay Ramadu, Carol Haiden, Helge Harms, Andrew Douglas, Petra Parke and Jennifer Hillier.

Anyone can join for free, you will just need to register on the parkrun website parkrun.co.za, which will give you a unique barcode for timing purposes.

Runners need to carry their barcode, either printed or on their phones, which will be scanned by volunteers at the finish.
