Silky moves at TJ Projects Footy tournament

The organisation has been promoting youth development, primarily in Shakaskraal.

The TJ Projects footy tournament drew some silky skills and supper soccer to the Footy courts at Townsend Park at the weekend.

Hosted by Shakaskraal’s TJ Projects organisation, the tournament drew teams from as far afield as Richard’s Bay and Durban.

Shakaskraal FC finished as runners-up.

Twenty teams competed for a shot at glory and some fantastic prizes, including R5 000 in cash and sponsored kits for the winning team.

“We are ultimately trying to bring back the soccer culture which existed when we were younger,” said TJ Projects director, Tyrique Captain.

Some silky skills on the halfway line.

“The spirit has been lost with the youth and its leading to some bad outcomes. If we can get kids on the sports field, it prevents them from looking for trouble.”

To do that, the organisation has been promoting youth development, primarily in Shakaskraal, and hopes to use tournaments like the one at the weekend to grow their reach.

NDC were the winning team on the day, beating Shakaskraal FC in the final.

The team behind the tournament, Tyra and Tyrique Captain, Louie Padayachee, James Naidoo and Althea Captain.
