Brettenwood charity golf day raises R70k for Etete’s Breakthrough Centre

With a focus on education and community support, the centre provides for local children and the elderly.

Brettenwood Estate came out swinging by raising a whopping R70 000 for Etete’s Breakthrough Centre through their charity golf day.

Hosted at Umhlali Country Club, the event served as the primary fundraiser for a new undercover walkway at the centre, which offers help to children and the elderly.

Brettenwood has had a long relationship with the centre and said they were grateful to be able to assist on a tangible project.

“The Breakthrough Centre is just 10 minutes away from Brettenwood and serves a community in need,” said Brettenwood manager, Samantha Subban.

“We must look after our neighbouring community and more so empower the next generation. In just a few years, these children will be in the workforce. Our country is built for them, and will one day, pretty soon, be built by them too.”

Lelo Gasa and Janine Hunt.

Education is a focus of the Brettenwood Homeowners Association (HOA) staff when picking charitable causes, and Subban said the Breakthrough Centre proved a perfect fit.

So too did the fundraising golf day, a first hosted by the Brettenwood HOA.

Around 100 players joined with a view to giving back… and shooting low of course.

Nombuso Mthethwa-Hadebe, Khosi Zondi and Buyi Ngcongo.

And while the R100 000 hole-in-one prize sponsored by Bay Union went unclaimed, there was plenty of good golf to go around.

Team Bay Union, comprising Nick Keary, Henry Coxwell, Craig Jamieson and Hugh Reece-Edwards were the best performing players on the day.

Team Shane Blewitt finished second with Team FNB rounding out the podium finishers.

Subban thanked Bay Union as the main sponsor of the day, as well as other sponsors involved.
