Umar Hoosen dominates squash final at Umhlali Country Club

The A Division finals provided a mouthwatering contest between Umhlali's Umar Hoosen and the experienced Frank Bradford from Salt Rock Squash Club.

The finals of the 2023 Dolphin Coast Squash closed tournament drew some thrilling squash from its players.

Held at Umhlali Country Club last week, the event was the last major squash showcase for the year and attracted the North Coast’s best competitors.

The A Division finals provided a mouthwatering contest between Umhlali’s Umar Hoosen and the experienced Frank Bradford from Salt Rock Squash Club.

Bradford is something of a legend in the local squash scene and had to use all of his guile to put up a fight against the younger Hoosen.

The first set saw both players getting to grips with the other’s game and was characterised by long rallies.

Hoosen grabbed the momentum early however, and claimed it 11-4.

The next two sets proved much the same as Hoosen relied on his fitness to win 11-5 and 11-7 on his way to a straight sets victory.

In the B Division finals, Umhlali’s Sydney Joelson and Salt Rock’s Sacha de Vos were well matched and some close fought rallies would ultimately decide the game.

De Vos started the better of the two, winning the first set 11-8.

Joelson returned with venom in the next set however, taking it 11-8 and using that to build momentum for the next two which he won 11-7 and 11-8 for a three sets to one victory.
