#Letter: Dolphin Coast taxi association must allow fair competition

Uber and taxis should be able to coexist.

Colleen McKee of Ballito writes:

Something definitely needs to be done about the taxi association stopping other modes of transport from transporting people.

In most cases it has nothing to do with the routes they take.

For example, we use an Uber or registered taxi to take us to the airport. They are allowed into our housing estate for pickups and drop-offs.

I would never use a minibus taxi for this. Those who use other modes of transport are usually one or two people. There are plenty of people being transported in minibus taxies to and from work.

This is a much appreciated mode of transport for our domestic workers who cannot use Uber because it would cost so much more.

There is plenty work for everyone, so in my opinion the taxi association should not be greedy – there is enough for all to make a living.
