#ReportBack: A connected community gets things done

Another cool project was the most recent revamp to the Salt Rock off-ramp which incorporated landscaping, ANPR cameras and inverters on the traffic lights.

As we scurry towards the end of 2023, I always use the last few days as a time for reflection and introspection of the year gone by.

The reflection we do as communicators, community leaders and role players remains vitally important to help us make sense of discordant experiences, unrealistic expectations and all the other challenges we navigate daily.

What I especially love reflecting on are the successes achieved by us as a community and the integral role that each one of us has played in epitomising this sense of togetherness.

This year has been no different.

Across the ward we have seen local businesses and individuals synergise to create a conducive environment for us all to live, work and play in.

One of the most exciting initiatives rolled out in our ward this year was the gaming centre at the Salt Rock Library.

This Siza Water donation of TV screens and Xboxes has created a valuable interactive space for young minds.

It incentivises reading by allowing kids to game for 30 minutes after they have read a book for at least 30 minutes.

Another cool project was the most recent revamp to the Salt Rock off-ramp which incorporated landscaping, ANPR cameras and inverters on the traffic lights.

This was an entirely community funded project that was spearheaded by individuals who just want to make their community great.

Proactive partnerships certainly work, and our Mandela Day 2023 project was an example of how local businesses came together to create a commuter friendly ablution block for those that use public transport.

In every community there is work to be done, and the willingness of our partners indicates that there is a firm commitment to do it.

My year in review has certainly been extraordinary, it has also meant evolving in ways that promote active participation and embracing the support of a remarkable community.

I’m grateful for the connection I share with the community of Ward 22.
