#IssuesAtStake: Calling for a “Saving Private Dawn” mission

The release last week of the Global Organised Crime Index, which ranked South Africa 19 out of 193 countries for criminality, is indicative of where we stand today in more ways than one - We've become a "gangsta" state, ruled by criminals and not leaders of integrity.

“Nee gonnas” people, it is increasingly obvious that the South African gods must still be crazy.

Actually no, they have now become insane, judging by the ongoing deluge of ridiculousness engulfing the country – once the proud powerhouse of the African continent.

Ever since Comrade Cyril deceived us with his “new dawn” speech of false hope when he took over from the Zupta brigade, things went from dark to… um… dark. Is there a term for darker than dark?

I demand an official investigation into why “New Dawn” was allowed to escape across our borders undetected.

Can we assume another case of bribery at Home Affairs?

South Africans desperately need their beam of light returned, so, to whichever country “New Dawn” has fled to in fear of darkness intimidation and discrimination, the public have every right to expect urgent state intervention and the expediting of extradition procedures.

A sort of “Saving Private Dawn” mission.

Just don’t send one of our military platoons, but rather a private security company called “The Enforcers” or something equally comforting and menacing to bring her back.

By the time our plodding soldiers manage to heave their obese bodies into their military troop carriers or negotiate small obstacles primary school children fly over, “Dawn” might just be deceased and lost forever. (Those social media posts are really embarrassing, aren’t they?).

God forbid Zimbabwe’s el Capo Emmerson Mnangagwa gets it into his head to invade mineral-rich South Africa by sending his elite forces across the Limpopo River with his fleet of navy gunboats. We might just come second. Anything is possible.

Our only advantage is that floatation of his fleet will be dependent on the next Limpopo flood, so it is perhaps prudent for us to proactively outmanoeuvre them by motorising our defunct submarines rusting away in Simon’s Town, to patrol the riverbed in the meantime.

With most of our fighter jets and chopper gunships also grounded because of maintenance neglect, we may as well modify these to 4×4 mode as well to at least pretend we have some semblance of military preparedness.

Apologies, I digress.

The release last week of the Global Organised Crime Index, which ranked South Africa 19 out of 193 countries for criminality, is indicative of where we stand today in more ways than one – We’ve become a “gangsta” state, ruled by criminals and not leaders of integrity.

Why is a new generation of capable political leaders not coming to the fore? Are they deliberately suppressed, or are they wise enough not to muddy their feet – to our detriment?

Add to that the still ongoing collapse of the economy, infrastructure, health services, government education, public services et al, we are going nowhere slowly.

It would have been much worse had it not been for the resilience of ordinary South Africans, who despite all the despair and almost insurmountable challenges, valiantly soldier on to keep the threads together.

Our only hope is that Private Dawn is found post haste and return willingly to help save us from the abyss.

If I may paraphrase Genesis 1:3: “Now South Africa was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the spirit of New Dawn was hovering over the surface of the waters and said: ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. And New Dawn saw that the light was good, and separated the light from the darkness.”
