Curro’s Class of 2023 delivers on matric exam undertaking

With a combined 49 distinctions and an 80% bachelor's degree pass rate, they certainly reached the target.

Curro Salt Rock’s matriculating class delivered on a promise they made at the beginning of last year.

The group of 55 pupils undertook to refocus after their Grade 11 year, work alongside each other and with teachers in service of great year-end results.

With a combined 49 distinctions and an 80% bachelor’s degree pass rate, the class of 2023 certainly did just that.

Curro’s newest alumni now look towards their future as independent adults, armed with the skills they have learnt over the past 12 years.

“We are so proud of this group and their outstanding results,” said Curro Salt Rock head of high school, Jenny van Buuren.

“Aside from the top achievers, who deserve all their plaudits, we are also very happy with the depth of results and particularly strong performance in STEM subjects.”

The 2023 class was led by top achiever Brian Heeley, who scored eight distinctions and an 86% average.

“I really did not expect to get the ‘full house’ of distinctions,” said Heeley.

“I was worried about how the accounting, English and Afrikaans exams went, but I am obviously thrilled with how it all worked out!”
Heeley will be heading off to Stellenbosch University to study mechatronics engineering.

Three more students earned an overall A average, namely Aidan Lobo (82% average, four distinctions), Jaco Nell (82% average, four distinctions) and Nontando Tsotetsi (81% average, five distinctions).

By way of their achievements, all four students received an invite to Curro’s national gala awards, where the school group honours its top academics.

Aside from their top four, Curro also had the unique experience of a graduating set of triplets.

The aforementioned Jaco Nell and his sisters Monique and Stephné all finished among the top 10 too, claiming 11 distinctions between them.

Curro’s top 10 achieved an average of 3.7 distinctions, while the grade managed a combined 84 B subject aggregates and 101 C subject aggregates, along with their 49 distinctions.”We just need to say a big thank you to the teachers who also deserve credit for these fantastic results,” said Van Buuren.

“Their experience, passion and desire to help the students fulfill their potential has been invaluable.”
