Jubilation as North Coast IEB matrics receive final results
The matrics from four North Coast schools received their results today, joining the 2 285 IEB students from across KZN.
The North Coast’s outgoing IEB matrics celebrated fantastic results on their last day at high school today.
Crawford International College North Coast, Ashton International College Ballito, Curro Salt Rock and Reddam House Ballito all had a matriculating class who wrote the IEB curriculum.
They form part of the 2 285 pupils who sat for IEB examinations across KwaZulu-Natal in 2023 and 15 180 countrywide.
The overall IEB pass rate across South Africa is 98.46%, a slight improvement on the 98.42% from 2022.
Of that overall percentage, 88.59% earned a bachelor’s pass, 8.31% a diploma pass and the remaining 1.57% a higher certificate pass.

Crawford International College North Coast
Crawford’s Daisy Pybus was the North Coast’s top IEB student in 2023.
Her incredible final aggregate of 94.62% was backed up by eight distinctions from her chosen 10 subjects.
Seven of her distinctions – for life orientation (96%), dramatic arts (96%), English (95%), life sciences (95%), information technology (94%), Afrikaans (94%) and mathematics (93%) – were in the 90s.
Pybus will be heading off to the University of Cape Town to study medicine.
Dhivya Naicker was the second placed matric with an average of 90.92% and eight distinctions, while Skyla Tyack (six distinctions, 86.62% average) finished in third.
Crawford’s matrics delivered a 95.5% bachelor’s pass and 134 distinctions.
Ashton International College Ballito
Diyajal Dass was the top-performing student at Ashton for 2023, earning an impressive 92% overall average by way of her nine distinctions.
Five of her distinctions – for mathematics (97%), physical sciences (96%) accounting (95%), life orientation (94%) and further studies mathematics, calculus and algebra (93%) – were in the 90s.
She plans on studying actuarial science at the University of Cape Town this year.
Ashton’s top 3 were rounded out by Ruby Dixon (seven distinctions, 88.9% average) and Senthuri Naicker (seven distinctions, 86.6% average).
The school earned a 100% bachelor’s pass and a 70.1% average for the entire grade.
Curro Salt Rock
Curro’s top-performing student Brian Heeley grabbed a full house of eight distinctions which combined for an 86% average.
Heeley said he hoped for five distinctions after initially feeling that the accounting, English and Afrikaans examinations had gone poorly.
He needn’t have worried and finished as the top performing Curro matriculant ahead of Aidan Lobo (five distinctions, 82% average) and Jaco Nell (four distinctions, 82% average).
Heeley plans on studying mechatronics engineering at the University of Stellenbosch.
The ‘Nell triplets’, of which Jaco is one third alongside his sisters Monique and Stephné, brought in a combined 11 distinctions.
Curro delivered an 80% bachelor’s pass and 49 distinctions overall.
Reddam House Ballito
Reddam’s second-ever class of matrics was led by top performer Jan-Christiaan Jacobs, who earned eight distinctions and an average of 90.2%.
Within those eight distinctions, Jacobs claimed six in the 90s; mathematics (98%), isiZulu (97%), further studies mathematics, calculus and algebra (92%), visual arts (91%), information technology (90%) and English (90%).
He was thrilled to learn the news and now turns his focus to the University of Stellenbosch, where he will be Heeley’s classmate in the mechatronics engineering faculty.
Megan Loud finished second overall with six distinctions, followed by Lily-Tam Bryan with five.
Six of Reddam’s 28 matriculants earned four or more distinctions.
The matriculating class also kept the streak alive by matching the 2022 group and producing a 100% bachelor’s pass rate.
