Police recently arrested two men for allegedly stealing bicycles belonging to the Salt40 Foundation.
The men, aged 28 and 35, from Shaka’s Head, were arrested on Monday.
According to iLembe police spokesperson Captain Alex Thomson, ten bicycles were stolen last December.
“Police recovered eight of the stolen bicycles, and both men have been charged with business break-in and theft. They are due to appear in the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court in due course,” said Thomson.
Martin Barnard, the founder of Salt40, confirmed that the December break-in was the second incident, with the first occurring earlier last year.
“In both break-ins, we lost at least 25 bicycles. I am pleased that some of the stolen bikes have been recovered and the people responsible have been arrested,” said Barnard.
The theft disrupted the foundation’s operations. Salt40 runs programmes where they engage with children in Groutville, teaching them to ride bicycles.
