Tongaat Charity Fair postponed due to severe flooding

Clean-up efforts are underway and a new date for the fair will be communicated as soon as possible.

The Tongaat Child Welfare Charity Fair has been postponed because of heavy rains leading to flooding at the Outspan Grounds overnight.

This year’s edition of the popular annual fair was scheduled to run from tomorrow, February 27, until Sunday.

Most of the tents, carnival rides and fair infrastructure had already been set up before over 100mms of rain lashed the town last night.

Tongaat Child and Family Welfare Society manager, Jo Moodley, said that teams are already on site to clean up and repair the damage where possible.

She said a new date for the fair will be communicated once planning can be done.

The Charity Fair is the largest single annual fundraiser for the organisation, which helps vulnerable children and families in the community.

“The Tongaat Child and Family Welfare Society Fair committee, led by volunteers, have poured so much time, effort and especially money into making this event a success to raise sorely needed funds for the society to continue to survive,” said Moodley.

“We strongly appeal to anyone in a position to assist us recover from this irreparable blow to come to our aid.”
