Santa on North Coast recruitment drive for Shoebox elves

Public invitation to support holiday cheer project for underprivileged children.

As the festive season draws near, it’s important to remember that not all children experience the same holiday cheer. Underprivileged children face the holiday season without gifts, or the basics often taken for granted.

Recognising the importance of putting smiles on little ones’ faces, The Santa Shoebox Project offers a powerful way to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children.

The non-profit organisation opened its annual pledge drive on September 1 and is inviting the public to become “Santa’s helpers” by creating and donating personalised shoeboxes filled with essential items.

Each shoebox must contain a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, a washcloth, school supplies, a toy, sweets, and a new outfit of clothing.

For those short on time, the Virtual Santa Shoebox option allows you to donate a pre-packed box, filled with the required items, for R450.

“With the project distributing more than 1.2 million shoeboxes since its inception, there is still a long way to go in ensuring that every child experiences the joy and kindness of the holiday season,” said CEO of the Santa Shoebox Project, Deb Zelezniak.

The North Coast can rally behind the project with drop-off dates scheduled for 24-26 October at La Montagne Hotel.
