It was celebration time for the 115 children of Qoqisizwe Créche who returned to their safe haven last Friday.
Earlier this year, the devastating tornado which hit Magwaveni destroyed the créche along with thousands of homes, but thanks to the combined efforts of government bodies, private sector organisations and agri-processing company Tongaat Hulett, the children’s facility was rebuilt in just two months by Partnership with Purpose.
Créche owner, 70-year-old Mandlenkosi Ntuli, was overcome with gratitude at the handover.
He shared how parents could now go to work with peace of mind, knowing their children were safe and well cared for.
Founded forty years ago as the first créche in the township, Qoqisizwe now employs a dedicated team of 10, including seven childminders, a cook, a cleaner and a security guard.
Partnership with Purpose project coordinator Eduard Louw was lauded for his unwavering commitment in bringing this project to fruition.
“This handover symbolises hope and resilience for the families affected by the disaster,” said Louw, calling for continued collaboration to support other areas in need around Tongaat.
The event highlighted the power of unity and strategic collaboration.
Acting CEO of Tongaat Hulett, Rob Aitken, emphasised the importance of everyone coming together to support communities in times of need.
“The rebuilding of Qoqisizwe Créche is a testament to what can be achieved when businesses, NGOs and government departments unite, leveraging their unique strengths to tackle key societal challenges.
For us at Tongaat Hulett, the smiles on the faces of the children and their parents said it all.”
