Father and son arrested in connection with multiple Ndwedwe murders

Decomposed body discovered in demolished pit latrine sparks wider murder investigation.

A 48-year-old father and his 25-year-old son have been arrested on charges of murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm after the discovery of a decomposed body of a man in a demolished pit latrine.

According to police spokesperson, colonel Robert Netshiunda, the son was initially arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and it transpired he was allegedly the last person seen with a 29-year-old man who was reported missing.

Further investigation indicated the son and his father had allegedly murdered the man, disposed of his body in a pit latrine, and then demolished the structure in an attempt to cover up their crime.

The man’s body was discovered on Thursday, leading to a breakthrough in investigations of other murder cases in the area to which the two suspects are now linked.

“The cases involved the killing of a security officer in May this year, whose body was found dumped next to a road, and the January 2021 murder of a man whom they allegedly stabbed before dumping his body on the street just a few meters from their home,” said Netshiunda.

He said the investigation is ongoing as the suspects may also have been involved in the murder of a pregnant woman in Umlazi.

The father and son are scheduled to appear in the Ndwedwe Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
