Courier service driver critically wounded in failed N2 hijack attempt

The driver was airlifted to hospital.

The driver of a courier service vehicle was critically wounded during a failed hijack attempt on the N2 near the Mandeni toll gate this morning.

According to IPSS spokesperson Samantha Meyrick, four armed suspects ambushed the vehicle travelling north in an attempt to hijack it.

They opened fire, critically wounding the driver, but in the ensuing shoot-out with the vehicle’s armed escort guards one of the attackers was also wounded. The men then fled the scene empty-handed.

Police are investigating.
