Future astronauts and space scientists inspired by space agency visit

Dr Thabani Mazibuko encouraged the pupils to become active participants in solving the country's challenges.

Local school pupils recently explored the vast possibilities of careers as astronauts and space scientists during a visit from the South African National Space Agency (SANSA).

Numerous schools hosted the agency, including Sabuyazi Secondary School and Vukile High School in Maphumulo.

They focused on engaging pupils from grades 10 to 12, offering insights into how space works and the various opportunities available within the agency.

Supporting the initiative was Dr Thabani Mazibuko, chairperson of the South African Space Technology for Sustainable Development Foundation.

Kanya Xongo from SANSA speaks to pupils of Sabuyazi Secondary on space technology.

A resident of Thembeni township outside Groutville, Mazibuko attended the events to motivate the pupils to become active participants in solving the country’s challenges.

“Don’t be afraid to explore and come up with inventions and put what you have learned into practice. Space technology plays a huge role in our day-to-day lives, so don’t hold back and judge yourself based on current situations. Reach out to the stars,” Dr Mazibuko encouraged.

This initiative by SANSA is part of a broader effort to develop future leaders in space technology and contribute to sustainable development in South Africa.
