iLembe police officers honoured at district excellence awards ceremony

iLembe district police commissioner Anthony Gopaul commended the dedication of officers, security companies and NGOs.

Police work is often a thankless job, but committed iLembe officers were acknowledged for exemplary work last Friday.

They were honoured at the Saps iLembe District Excellence Awards ceremony at the Siva Sungum Hall in Stanger Manor.

District police commissioner, Major General Anthony Gopaul, praised their dedication to fighting crime, also commending security companies and non-profit organisations who provide support.

Apart from the individual awards, the Umhlali police station received the Governance and Compliance Station of the Year award, while Glendale police station was named Best Station of the Year.

Among the standout individuals was sergeant Phindile Dumisa of Newark who was named Woman of the Year.

She was described as a dedicated detective who embodies the spirit of service and consistently went “above and beyond her duties”.

She is passionate about community engagement, actively taking part in social crime prevention and conducting awareness campaigns to build trust between the police and communities.

Umhlali police spokesperson Captain Vinny Pillay received the Man of the Year award. Pillay was recognised for his consistent dedication to serving the community, exemplifying the values of selflessness and commitment.

He regularly collects perishable items and delivers them to underprivileged communities.
