Selvan Govender elected as new Ballito Lions president

Support the next Lions fundraiser, 'Crazy for ABBA' at the Pumpkin Theatre on August 30.

Selvan Govender was recently elected as the new Ballito Lions president at a lavish ceremony at the Scout Hall at Townsend Park.

Taking over from the outgoing Ken Chapman, Govender will head up the organisation and its outreach efforts.

Chapman thanked the Lions for their hard work over the past few years of his tenure, specifically in response to the devastation seen during the 2022 floods and the Tongaat tornado.

“We are proud to have been able to assist many of the most needy in our community over this difficult period and the Lions motto of ‘We Serve’ has been truly reflected,” said Chapman.

Govender was inducted by Avril Hobbs, the First Vice District Governor of Lions District 410E, which includes 83 individual Lions clubs and more than 1 000 members.

She was particularly enthusiastic about the collaboration between the Ballito Lions and Stanger Rotary Club and was hopeful of a positive future impact in the respective communities.

If you would like to play a part in that work, you can join the next Lions fundraiser, a ‘Crazy for ABBA’ event at the Pumpkin Theatre on August 30.

All funds raised will go towards the Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa.
