Police have also removed more than 100 people attempting to invade vacant land in Etete.

Melusi Buthelezi (36) and Mandlenkosi Mdluli (44) were charged with intimidation.

They appeared at the KwaDukuza Regional Court and were granted bail, according to iLembe police spokesperson Captain Alex Thomson. They will return to court on August 8.

A large crowd gathered outside the KwaDukuza Court when the two men first appeared, protesting the arrests.

Umhlali police spokesman captain Vinny Pillay said they are removing illegal invaders as and when they arrive.

IPSS Security CEO Frank Labidi reported multiple attempts to invade land adjoining and belonging to the Palm Lakes estate.

Together with Saps’ public order policing units, they have repeatedly removed the squatters following a High Court interdict obtained by Palm Lakes.

“On some occasions the situation turned violent as it appears the squatters had paid for land to a suspect named Buthelezi, who has been arrested and released. We have the title deeds and maps in our possession and are monitoring the situation daily,” said Labidi.

KwaDukuza municipality has been grappling with squatters in numerous locations who continue to invade both government and private land.
