Writing challenge sparks Ballito author’s debut book

The work is an inspirational Christian devotional.

A five-day “Write it now challenge” on Facebook served as the stepping stone for Ballito author Jessica d’Unienville to unearth her writing talent.

Her writing journey began in April last year when she was invited to join an author’s challenge by British book coach, Sue Sundstrom.

Jessica has not looked back.

“Sundstrom taught us the basics of writing a book and self-publishing and encouraged us to write every day. She answered all our questions and was a great inspiration when confusion hit,” Jessica said.

After a year and two months, Jessica finished writing her first book based on her life experiences. Titled “40-Day Devotional: Holding on to Hope,” the Christian devotional was launched at Church Alive Ballito on Saturday.

“It is based on my life story and how God stepped in and helped me, even when I didn’t realise it. He carried me when I no longer had the strength to carry on,” she said.

The death of her parents and the profound affect this had on her was the catalyst for the book that speaks to religion, healing and resilience.

“My hope and prayer are that when people read this devotional, it will let them know that in every storm of life, there is hope to hold on to,” she said.

To get your hands on a copy visit the Waterberry Coffee Shop in Ballito where they are selling for R200 each. Alternatively you can email Jessica at jessicadunienville85@gmail.com.

The book will soon be available on online platforms such as Amazon and Kindle as well as in bookstores like Bargain Books, Exclusive Books and CUM Books.
