Cops produce video evidence of assault in KwaDukuza attempted murder case, security guards denied bail

The wait for DNA test results continues to hamper the case.

The four security guards arrested in connection with the human remains recently found in New Guelderland were denied bail last Thursday.

Appearing in the KwaDukuza Regional Court, the accused face charges of kidnapping and attempted murder.

The remains are believed to be those of close friends Junior Dlamini (19) and Azeer Rahiman (30), who went missing on April 23.

In June, investigating officer sergeant Ziphozonke Mahlangu testified in court that the police are in possession of video footage showing the accused – Soorav Dew Maharaj, Meluleki Bubele Praisegod Mkhize, Nkosinathi Khoza and Siphesihle Zubane – assaulting the two men and taking them into a security company’s offices in KwaDukuza.

He said the police also have a witness who saw the two men being loaded into a vehicle from the offices, showing no signs of movement.

The vehicle was seized and blood stains were found. The police are still waiting for DNA results to determine if the blood belonged to Dlamini and Rahiman.

“It took a whole month to gather information about the missing men. People were scared to provide information to assist, but eventually some came forward. Those people will be scared or shocked if the accused get bail,” said Mahlangu when testifying against the bail application in court.

Rahiman’s sister Aneesah Chetty said bail being denied brings comfort to the family members of the missing victims.

“We are now reassured that the justice system is unbiased and is not failing us. We have hope once again that justice will be served, and the perpetrators will be punished in due course.

“We still await the results of the DNA tests. The long wait has been stressful and draining mentally and emotionally, but we leave everything in the capable hands of the man above. He will see us through this,” said Chetty.

Junior’s brother Zak Vadia said they feel that justice is being served and that the accused will feel the pain of being in prison.
