One of South Africa’s most revered Afrikaans musicians, Mathys Roets, attracted a large crowd to The Pumpkin Theatre at La Montagne on Sunday afternoon.
Himself a crowd-puller and chart-topper, Roets’ performance had an extra dimension as he paid tribute to icon Leonard Cohen.
He previously also held concerts in homage to other world stars such as Neil Diamond, Cat Stevens and Roger Whittaker.
In April 2009 Roets was paralysed in a serious motorbike accident while on his way to the KKNK national arts festival in Oudtshoorn but continued his music career after rehabilitation.
