Life imprisonment for Ndwedwe man who raped daughter

The father, who was 34 at the time of the crime, raped his 13-year-old daughter at their home while they were alone.

A 38-year-old Ndwedwe resident was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping his daughter.

According to iLembe cluster’s police spokesperson, Captain Alex Thomson, the man was arrested in 2021 at his residence in Ndwedwe for a case of rape earlier that year in Mayekeni.

He was convicted last Wednesday at the Verulam Regional Court, where he was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The father, who was 34 at the time of the crime, raped his 13-year-old daughter at their home while they were alone.

The girl only disclosed the assault later to family members during the holidays, who then contacted the Ndwedwe police.

“The docket was transferred to the iLembe District Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, and detectives initiated an investigation. The FCS detectives acted promptly to arrest and charge the father with rape,” said Thomson.

iLembe district commissioner, Major-General Anthony Gopaul, praised the FCS Unit for their effort in securing a life sentence.

“This sentence is a testament to our unwavering stance against crimes perpetrated on women and children. It sends a clear message that such acts will be met with the full force of the law. Saps is dedicated to protecting abuse victims and maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of violence,” said Gopaul.
