Zulu heritage takes centre stage at Ingoma YeLembe festival in Maphumulo

The festival helps to preserve cultural traditions and promotes social cohesion.

Hundreds of traditional dancers and cultural groups showcased their talents at the Ingoma YeLembe festival in Maphumulo last weekend.

Hosted by the iLembe District Municipality at Maphumulo’s Nyamazane Sports Field on Sunday, the festival served as a display of Zulu heritage.

iLembe mayor Thobani Shandu said he felt it was important to preserve cultural traditions, while instilling ubuntu and promoting behavioural change.
