The essential steps for a top-notch dental care routine

A radiant smile isn't just about aesthetics, it's a reflection of good dental health.

A good dental care routine does not only get you smiling broadly, it reduces your chances of developing dental related problems such as such gum disease, tooth decay and tooth sensitivity.

A quick brush does not get the job done. Two minutes is the required time you should spend when brushing your teeth, but who’s counting?

The following steps will help you achieve the best dental routine:

Visit your dentist

First, find the best dentist for you. Then, get regular check-ups and cleanings to prevent and treat any problems early.

Do not ignore signs of gum disease, such as redness, swelling or bleeding gums.

Teaching kids the importance of regular tooth brushing is crucial.

Choose the right toothbrush
Selecting the right toothbrush can be overwhelming when dizzying options ranging from basic to hi-tech are made available.

If you have sensitive gums choose a tooth brush with soft bristles. A soft-bristled brush will also help to avoid eroding the delicate tooth enamel and causing gums to recede.

A brush’s bristles can become worn over time, which reduces its cleaning ability. Buy a new toothbrush every three months, or even more often if yours looks worn or you have recently been sick.

Brushing is not enough
Brushing is good, but using floss and mouth rinse every day is even better for your dental health.

Flossing is important for removing plaque and food particles from between teeth and along the gumline, preventing cavities, gum disease and bad breath.

Technique is everything

Using light pressure brush gently in circular motions, covering all tooth surfaces. Be sure to brush the outer surfaces, inner surfaces, and chewing surfaces of all teeth.

Brush your teeth at least twice a day, every day. Brushing cleans teeth, removes built-up plaque, massages the gums, prevents gum disease and freshens your breath.
